Pune: The floodwaters in Ekta Nagari on Sinhagad Road have receded due to the reduced release of water from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River.
Since the last two days, there has been heavy rainfall in the Khadakwasla dam chain, leading to a release of approximately 45,000 cusecs of water into the Mutha River from Sunday night.
As a result, the ground floors of three to four societies in the Ekta Nagari area were flooded. However, on Monday (August 5) morning, the discharge was reduced to 35,000 cusecs, and by the afternoon, it was further reduced to 21,000 cusecs.
Subsequently, the floodwaters began to recede. By evening, the floodwaters had completely receded. Apart from the three to four societies that had flooded, the electricity supply to the remaining 16 societies was promptly restored by MSEDCL.
Cleaning Operations Begin
On Monday afternoon, after the water began to recede, the municipal corporation immediately began cleaning the areas where water had entered.
Many residents remained at home since it was Sunday, despite the flooding. The municipal corporation provided drinking water tankers and mobile medical services for these residents.
Additionally, the municipal corporation quickly cleaned the water tanks of some societies. For this purpose, jetting machines, sanitation workers, and employees for spraying disinfectants were deployed.
Fire Department Commended
Due to the significant water release into the river, three fire trucks, two boats, and 15 personnel were stationed in Ekta Nagari for two consecutive days.
The fire department maintained regular contact with the Khadakwasla Dam officials every two hours to get updates on the water discharge.
Moreover, the fire department personnel, along with army soldiers, played a crucial role in rescuing many people during the flood, earning praise from the local residents.
