Pune: The culture of coming together in times of need was exemplified recently when the Barne family from Thergaon extended a generous financial contribution to national wrestler Vijay Doiphode, who is currently battling for his life.

Vijay, a 21-year-old athlete who has represented Maharashtra in numerous national competitions, met with a severe accident in Pune, leaving him unconscious for 12 days.

Moved by the news of Vijay’s dire condition and the desperate need for funds for his treatment, former Pimpri-Chinchwad corporator Maya Barne and former opposition leader Santosh Barne acted swiftly.

They transferred one lakh rupees to Vijay's account to support his medical expenses. Vijay’s family, originally from a modest background in Satara district, was overwhelmed by this act of kindness.
