Pune: An alarming incident unfolded in Jaipur when an attempt was made to kill a police officer by running a vehicle over him while the police were trying to apprehend an accused involved in a major fraud case.
The dramatic event, which was caught on CCTV, has led to a case being registered at a local police station in Jaipur.
Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Swami from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Cyber Police sustained injuries to his leg during the incident. According to the authorities, a cyber team from Pimpri-Chinchwad had traveled to Jaipur, Rajasthan, to arrest Akshat Goyal, accused of defrauding ₹1.08 crore.
Goyal had allegedly lured people into a scam by creating the fear of police intervention in Chinchwad. Another accused, Mayank Goyal, already in custody, had provided crucial information about Akshat’s location, leading the police to set a trap in Jaipur.
Upon arrival, the Cyber Police found Akshat seated in a black car with his friends. The police surrounded the vehicle, demanding that Akshat and his associates exit. However, Akshat chose to escape, starting the car and attempting to flee.
In a bid to stop him, Assistant Inspector Pravin Swami positioned himself in front of the vehicle, only to be run over as Akshat drove away, evading capture.
The incident prompted Inspector Swami to file a complaint at the local police station against Akshat Goyal for obstructing governmental duties and attempting to murder a police officer. The police are actively searching for Akshat, who remains at large.
