Pune: Omkar Shyamrao Joshi, who was recently arrested for impersonating a Director of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and defrauding a businessman of ₹4.41 crore, is now facing fresh allegations of fraud.
This time, Joshi is accused of posing as a representative of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) for Maharashtra, using his fake identity to deceive people.
According to a complaint filed by police constable Tushar Salunke at the Sangvi Police Station, a case has been registered against Omkar Joshi (45), a resident of Orient Society, Kate Wasti, Pimple Saudagar. The alleged fraud occurred between May 4 and the present.
The police revealed that Joshi falsely claimed to be a Director in the Ministry of Heavy Industries, luring a businessman with the promise of a 20% monthly return on investment in government tenders. This scam led to the businessman losing ₹4.41 crore. A case was filed at Bhosari MIDC Police Station in connection with this incident.
Following his arrest by the Economic Offences Wing of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, a search of Joshi's residence uncovered multiple fake visiting cards.
Among them was a card bearing the Ashoka Pillar emblem, which Joshi used to convince others he was a representative of the NCBC for Maharashtra. Joshi allegedly distributed these fraudulent cards in his residential area to bolster his fake credentials.
By misusing the Ashoka Pillar symbol, which is prohibited without government authorization, Joshi was able to deceive numerous individuals.
The police have registered a case against Joshi under charges of forgery, fraud, and impersonation. Police Sub-Inspector Kanse is leading the investigation.
