Pune: Hotels and resorts in Lonavala and Khandala are reporting full bookings in celebration of Independence Day. The extended weekend, combined with Independence Day and the Parsi New Year holidays, has drawn a significant number of tourists to the area.
On Independence Day, Lonavala saw a significant influx of visitors. Popular spots such as Bhushi Dam, Rajmachi, Lohagad, and the Karla-Bhaje Caves, along with the Pawna Dam area, are particularly crowded with tourists.
The monsoon season drives many to seek out rain-related activities. Tourist favorites like Lions Point, Rajmachi Garden in Khandala, and Sunset Point are also experiencing high visitor numbers.
The increase in tourism around Independence Day has created a lively atmosphere among local businesses. With extended holidays, many have planned trips to Lonavala-Khandala, as well as Mahabaleshwar, Matheran, and Konkan. Numerous hotels and resorts have been booked in advance.
As a result, tourist traffic has increased, causing slow-moving traffic on the expressway between Dasturi and Khandala Tunnel. Temporary vehicle lines were observed on Bhushi Road.
Due to a lack of rain in July, which had seen heavy downpours, August's mild weather has caused a drop in rainfall. Consequently, the lack of rain has dampened the experience for tourists who visited Lions Point and Bhushi Dam on Independence Day.
