Pune: In a significant update for Pune commuters, two-way traffic has been restored on Ganeshkhind Road starting today, August 10. This change affects vehicles traveling from Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk to Shivajinagar via Range Hills Chowk.
The restriction, which was implemented on June 1 due to ongoing Metro construction, has now been lifted to ease traffic flow and prevent congestion.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar, the new traffic arrangement allows all types of vehicles to move in both directions between Pune University Chowk and Khude (IMD/Simla Office) Chowk. The earlier restrictions on this route have been officially revoked.
Citizens were facing daily traffic congestions on the Ganeshkhind road due to several reasons including the ongoing metro construction work.
Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Traffic police had implemented several measures to ease the congestion, especially during peak traffic hours. However, commuters did not find relief.
Adding to their traffic woes, the traffic from Aundh towards Shivajinagar was diverted from SPPU to VAMNICOM and further from Range Hills road to Na.Ta.Wadi chowk.
This diversion not only increased the commute time, but also added to new congestion spots. Later the SPPU to Vamnicom traffic diversion was cancelled, however the next diversion remained.
Now commuters can drive expect to reach early to their destination. Potholes on Ganeshkhind road are another major concern for slowing down of traffic.
Large potholes were created due to incessant rains and heavy vehicle movement. PMC now needs to ensure that these potholes are repaired immediately, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic on Ganeshkhind road.
