Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) held a meeting to address concerns raised by doctors and social organizations about the health impacts of loudspeaker walls and laser lights used during Ganeshotsav.
The excessive noise has been linked to various health issues, including ear, heart, and eye ailments. The Ganesh Mandal workers supported these concerns but urged that their reputations not be unfairly tarnished, highlighting their role in community support during challenging times.
In the meeting, Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale assured that discussions would be held with police and officials from relevant departments, and a policy regarding advertisements by the Mandals would be formulated.
The meeting, attended by Ganesh Mandal workers and representatives from social organizations, included key officials such as Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav, and others.
Key Issues and Proposals Discussed:
Ban on loudspeaker walls and laser lights during the festival.
Reduction of drum and tasha sounds to prevent disturbance to residents and patients in hospitals.
Stopping dances to vulgar songs during the festival.
Concerns over traffic congestion caused by advertisement arches.
Ensuring a well-organized celebration considering public health and safety.
Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale emphasized that all points raised in the meeting were noted. A pre-festival meeting with police, MSEDCL, and other departments will be held to discuss these issues.
A helpline for noise pollution complaints will be established, and a policy for Mandal advertisements will be created without reducing road width. Mobile toilets will be cleaned hourly.

Installation of directional boards for visitors.
Financial assistance from the PMC due to rising costs.
Reduced electricity rates and return of last year’s deposit from MSEDCL.
Addressing the obstruction caused by the 17-foot-high metro pedestrian bridge in front of Sambhaji Garden.
Emphasis on positive contributions by workers and opposition to being labeled negatively.
Manufacturing speakers to ensure sound remains within 75 decibels.
Complaints of unfair treatment by the police.
Permits for Ganesh idol sellers to be granted by August 31.
