Pune: What was supposed to be a night of celebration turned violent during the Ganpati Visarjan procession in Janwadi when a minor mishap escalated into a brutal assault.

A man was severely injured after a group attacked him with a stone following an argument that arose after his nephew accidentally bumped into someone while dancing.

The incident took place on Monday night at approximately 11:45 PM in PMC Colony, Janwadi, where the Ganpati immersion festivities were underway.

According to the complaint filed by 52-year-old Sahibrao Bhimrao Orse, a resident of PMC Colony, the trouble began when his nephew, Yash Orse, accidentally bumped into another individual while they were dancing in the procession. This seemingly minor incident quickly escalated into a heated altercation.

Witnesses reported that Mohan Jadhav, along with Pratik Alkunte and two other unidentified associates, reacted aggressively. The group allegedly began hurling insults at Orse and his family, before physically assaulting them.

The situation spiraled further when Jadhav picked up a stone from the ground and struck Orse near his face and eyes, leaving him bleeding and injured.

Orse was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, and the incident was reported to the Chatuhshrungi Police Station. Based on Orse’s statement, police have registered a case against Jadhav, Alkunte, and their accomplices.

Sub-Inspector Karade, who is in charge of the investigation, said, "We are looking into all aspects of the case and are in the process of identifying the other individuals involved in the attack."

The altercation shocked the local community, who had gathered to celebrate Ganpati Visarjan, a time typically marked by festive spirit and unity. Local authorities have increased police presence in the area to prevent further violence as the city continues with immersion ceremonies.
