Pune: G H Raisoni International Skill Tech University inaugurated its Drone Development Club on campus, marking a significant step towards encouraging innovation and hands-on learning among students.
The event witnessed participation from prominent university officials, faculty members, and students, with Dr. Sunil Dhore, Head of Computer Development at the Army Institute of Technology, Pune, serving as the Chief Guest.
Dr. Dhore highlighted the transformative potential of drones, stating that they are set to revolutionize industries such as agriculture, disaster management, logistics, and defense.
He encouraged students to view drones as tools that go beyond technology and can help solve pressing real-world challenges, particularly in the defense sector for enhancing security.
The event featured various student groups showcasing cutting-edge drone prototypes and solutions. The Yomdhara group (Yerawada branch) won the first prize for their innovative design, while the KrishiXpert group (Wagholi branch) secured the runner-up position.
Dr. M.U. Kharat, Vice-Chancellor of G H Raisoni International Skill Tech University, praised the participants for their creativity, noting that each team demonstrated remarkable ingenuity and problem-solving abilities.
Chairman of Raisoni Education, Sunil Raisoni, and Executive Director, Shreysh Raisoni, congratulated the winners and emphasized the importance of fostering such innovative platforms to prepare students for future challenges.
Earlier in September, BonV Aero, an Odisha-based startup set a new world record for high-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operations. The startup which supplies heavy-lift drones to the Indian Army, successfully conducted a hover test at 19,024 feet while carrying a 30kg payload, securing its place in the International Book of Records.
The milestone was achieved at Umling La Pass in Ladakh, the highest motorable pass in the world. BonV Aero’s UAV lifted a 30kg payload to an altitude of 19,024 feet, with a total takeoff weight of 100kg.
