Pune: Rain has returned to the Khadakwasla Dam Cluster project, leading to an increase in water levels. As of Friday (July 12) evening, the combined water storage of the Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar dams reached 8 TMC. On the same day last year, the water storage was at 8.14 TMC, providing relief to Pune residents.
The weather department had issued a heavy rainfall warning for the catchment areas of these four dams on July 9. However, for the past three days, the catchment areas received less than 15 mm of rain, resulting in minimal increase in water storage.
Since Friday morning, with the return of rain in the catchment areas, Panshet received 23 mm, Varasgaon 23 mm, and Temghar 34 mm of rainfall throughout the day.
The current water storage levels are as follows:
Khadakwasla: 1 TMC
Panshet: 3.64 TMC
Varasgaon: 2.65 TMC
Temghar: 0.71 TMC
Meanwhile, light to moderate showers were received in Pune city area since Friday morning, marking the beginning of a monsoon that is expected to bring good rainfall this year, according to the India Meteorological Department. The IMD anticipates that light to moderate showers will continue until July 14.
