Pune: Continuous heavy rainfall in the Pune region has led to a sharp rise in the prices of leafy vegetables, particularly green coriander leaves, fenugreek, and spinach.

The reduced supply, caused by weather-related damage and lower cultivation, has pushed the prices of green coriander leaves to an all-time high, with retail prices ranging from Rs 60 to Rs 80 per bundle.

According to traders at Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, the prolonged rains have significantly impacted the quality and availability of leafy greens.

The wholesale market has also seen a spike in prices, with fenugreek and spinach following suit. With new cultivation expected to take at least a month, these high prices are likely to persist until the Ganesh festival.

The situation is exacerbated by the halt in the supply of green coriander leaves from other states and the damage to crops in the Latur region due to heavy rains.

As a result, traders are facing increased transportation and labor costs, which are being passed on to consumers. While green coriander leaves, fenugreek, and spinach are seeing the most significant price hikes, other leafy vegetables are also priced higher than usual, ranging between Rs 25 and Rs 40 per bundle in the retail market.
