Pune: With a growing number of children being diagnosed with autism, understanding and addressing the unique challenges and strengths of neurodiverse individuals has become increasingly important.
In response to the concerns of parents and caregivers, the Vaikhari Speech Therapy Clinic is organizing a seminar titled "Growing Up with Autism" aimed at providing expert guidance to parents of adolescents with autism.
Adolescence is often a turbulent time for children and their families, and this period can be especially challenging for children with autism. Parents of autistic children frequently face uncertainty about how their child’s development will progress in comparison to neurotypical peers. They are often unsure about where to turn for help, leading to increased stress and anxiety.
The "Growing Up with Autism" seminar is designed to offer answers to these concerns. The program will bring together experts from various fields to provide practical advice and support.
Dr. Vaishali Deshmukh, a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine, will discuss the hormonal and physical changes associated with puberty in autistic children.
Senior Occupational Therapist Anjali Joshi will address issues related to sensory processing and integration, while Child Psychologist Pallavi Inamdar will focus on common behavioral challenges.
Speech therapist and event organizer Vedali Inamdar will highlight communication and interaction difficulties often experienced by children with autism.
The seminar aims to equip parents with the tools and knowledge needed to support their adolescent children during this critical stage of development.
With Paranjape Schemes and Swaniketan Project serving as marketing partners, the event is scheduled for Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Bal Shikshan School premises in M.E.S Hall, Kothrud.
