Pune: In a tragic turn of events, a 16-year-old girl was strangled to death by her brother during a scuffle over sleeping arrangements. The incident took place in the early hours of June 17 at around 2:30 AM in their home in Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar.
The deceased victim has been identified as Safia Suleman Ansari. Her brother, identified as Sharikh Suleman Ansari,18, has been arrested by Hadapsar police. Sharikh has been charged with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Assistant Police Inspector Deepak Berge has registered the FIR in this regard.
According to the police, the dispute began when Sharikh, wanting to sleep, knocked on Safia's door to retrieve a bed. After repeated knocking with no response, an angry Safia emerged from her room, leading to a heated argument between the siblings.
As Safia attempted to leave the house, Sharikh pulled her back inside. The altercation escalated when Safia grabbed a kitchen knife and tried to attack Sharikh. In the ensuing struggle, Sharikh strangled her. She lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
Initially, the police recorded the incident as an accidental death. However, a detailed investigation revealed it to be a murder, resulting in Sharikh's arrest. Police Inspector (Crime) Modave is leading the investigation.
