Pune: Chetan Tupe, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA representing the Hadapsar Assembly constituency, has been named this year's recipient of the prestigious 'Outstanding Parliamentarian Award' by the Maharashtra branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
The award will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, September 3rd, during a ceremony at the central hall of the Mumbai Legislative Building.
This award recognizes Tupe's significant contributions to legislative proceedings, including his consistent participation, adherence to parliamentary rules, and skillful oratory.
He is the first MLA from the Hadapsar constituency, a suburb of Pune, to receive this honor. The last recipient of this award from Pune was the late Minister Girish Bapat, who received it 20 years ago.
The selection process involves a thorough evaluation by an expert committee, considering the nominee's parliamentary conduct, understanding of traditions, and overall contribution to the legislative process.
The award has previously been conferred on prominent figures such as the late Home Minister R. R. Patil, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Cooperation Minister Dilip Walse Patil, and Arun Gujarathi.
In 2019 NCP's Chetan Tupe, who later aligned with Ajit Pawar, won the Hadapsar assembly seat. It is likely that this constituency will be retained by the NCP in the Mahayuti seat sharing formula.
Given the current political landscape, it is also anticipated that Sharad Pawar's faction of the NCP will retain this seat within the Maha Vikas Aghadi, as Prashant Jagtap, the Pune city president of the Sharad Pawar faction, has significant influence in Hadapsar.
