Hadapsar Police Arrest Man for Illegally Selling Medication for Drug Abuse
Pune: Hadapsar police have uncovered an illegal operation involving the sale of Mephentermine Sulphate injection, typically used to treat low blood pressure, which were being sold for drug abuse.
A 21-year-old man, Omkar Angad Binawade, has been arrested for illegally stockpiling and selling the injection in Hadapsar.
Omkar Binawade, a resident of Pragtinagar, Kalepadal Road, was found in possession of 39 vials of Mephentermine Sulphate.
The injections, which were sold between ₹600 to ₹700 per vial, were valued at approximately ₹25,000. Binawade had no valid license to sell these injections and lacked any formal training in pharmaceutical sales.
According to the police, Mephentermine Sulphate is a chemical drug that should only be administered under medical supervision.
Unauthorized use of this drug can lead to severe health consequences due to its toxic components, especially when used without proper medical advice.
Despite being aware of the drug's potential dangers, Binawade was reportedly selling the injections illegally for recreational misuse, making a profit from unsuspecting customers.
The arrest was made following a tip-off received by Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Kudale, who was informed that Binawade was selling these injections.
A swift operation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kavle, along with constables Deepak Kamble, Nilesh Kirve, and Abhijit Raut, which led to the arrest of Binawade in possession of the illegal stock.
Officials warn that misuse of such medical drugs can lead to dangerous health risks. The police are investigating whether Binwade had any accomplices or if there is a larger network involved in the sale of such dangerous substances.
This operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police R Raja, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashwini Rakh, Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare, and Police Inspector Nilesh Jagdale.
The diligent efforts of the police team, including Assistant Inspector Arjun Kudale and Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kavle, alongside other officers, ensured the arrest and seizure of the illegal drugs.
