Pune: The district has witnessed significant agricultural damage due to continuous heavy rainfall and floods since June, affecting more than 10,000 farmers across 3,649 hectares.
Purandar taluka has been the hardest hit, with almost 7,000 farmers facing crop loss. In June, the damage was limited, but the situation worsened with the heavy rains in July and August, leading to substantial destruction of crops in many areas.
Rainfed crops suffered the most, while several farmers also experienced losses to their irrigated crops and fruit farms. The government has carried out damage assessments (panchanama) to provide relief to the affected farmers.
The Bhivadi and Saswad regions in Purandar taluka have reported the highest crop losses, with key crops like peas, soybeans, groundnuts, beans, millet, vegetables, and flowers severely impacted.
Proposals for compensation have been made, with an estimated ₹13,600 per hectare for rainfed crops and ₹27,000 per hectare for irrigated crops. Purandar taluka, known for its rainfed agriculture, has seen extensive damage to crops like peas, soybeans, beans, millet, and groundnuts.
In addition to Purandar, other talukas, including Bhor, Velhe, and Haveli, have also seen significant losses in both July and August. The detailed taluka-wise reports highlight the widespread agricultural damage across the district.
