Pune: The central government has given the green light for the construction of an elevated road from Kasarwadi Nashik Phata to Rajgurunagar on the Pune-Nashik Highway.

This project is expected to alleviate the chronic traffic congestion in areas such as Bhosari, Moshi, Chimbali, Kuruli, and Chakan, providing much-needed relief to motorists while also spurring development in these regions.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed an eight-lane elevated corridor, which will be constructed on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis.

Ease-of-Logistics: Pune-Nashik 8-Lane Elevated Corridor Approved

This corridor will enhance connectivity to industrial hubs, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and improve regional logistics efficiency. Additionally, it will reduce travel time between Pune and Nashik and boost development in the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Khed areas.

The Pune-Nashik Highway begins at Nashik Phata in Kasarwadi and extends for 30 kilometers to Khed. This stretch frequently experiences traffic jams.

To address this, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had proposed an eight-lane elevated corridor, which received approval last week. The corridor will be constructed on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis.

Benefits of the Corridor:

  • Increased high-speed connectivity for the industrial areas of Chakan and Bhosari.

  • Reduced traffic congestion in Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding areas.

  • Improved regional logistics and transportation efficiency.

  • Once the proposed Ring Road is operational, it will connect Nagar Road, Solapur, Satara, and the Mumbai Highway to the expressway.

  • Reduced travel time between Pune and Nashik.

  • Accelerated development in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Khed areas.

Current Situation:

  • The road from Nashik Phata to Khed is a four-lane road, with some sections having six lanes due to service roads.

  • Bhosari's Rajamata Jijau Flyover has service roads on both sides.

  • In the Chakan area, service roads exist on both sides, but parking issues render them ineffective.

  • The municipal corporation has removed structures for widening the road from Nashik Phata to Moshi Indrayani River Bridge.

  • Frequent traffic congestion occurs in areas like Bhosari Landevadi, Chandni Chowk, PMT Chowk, Dhawadevasti, Raja Shivchhatrapati Chowk, Moshi Gavthan, Bharatmata Chowk, Chimbali Phata, Kuruli Phata, Chakan Chowk, and Ambethan Chowk.

Planned Route:

  • A single-pier eight-lane elevated road from Nashik Phata to Khed.

  • The main road will be beneath the elevated road with service roads on both sides.

  • The construction will be done in two packages:

  • Package-1: Nashik Phata to Chakan (16.735 kilometers).

  • Package-2: Chakan to Khed (13.128 kilometers).

  • The elevated road will pass over the Rajamata Jijau Flyover in Bhosari.
