Pune: In a surprising legal turn, a case initially filed by a husband seeking reconciliation with his estranged wife has resulted in a swift divorce granted by the Pune Family Court.
Both parties, Sunil (age 38) and Sunita (age 33), who had been living separately since 2022, agreed to dissolve their marriage by mutual consent, prompting the court to finalize their divorce in just one day.
The decision was handed down by Judge S.B. Yadav, marking a rare instance of expedited legal proceedings in a family dispute.
Sunil and Sunita, both professionals, were married in 2013, and their relationship initially seemed stable. They even had a daughter together.
However, as the years passed, differences in values and opinions led to increasing conflicts, eventually causing the couple to live apart. In an attempt to resolve the situation, Sunil approached the family court in 2023, requesting that his wife return to live with him.
The wife, represented by her lawyer, Adv. Mangesh Kadam, attended the court hearing. After discussions, it became evident that reconciling was no longer an option for the couple.
They mutually decided to proceed with a divorce instead. Recognizing the mutual agreement and desire for a swift resolution, the court granted the divorce in just one day.
As part of the divorce settlement, their daughter will remain in the mother’s care, with the father allowed visitation rights during holidays.
Sunil has agreed to provide Rs. 7 lakh for their daughter’s future expenses and to continue paying premiums on life insurance policies for both the wife and daughter. Additionally, there were no disputes between the couple regarding the division of jewelry or other valuable assets.
Adv. Mangesh Kadam, representing Sunita, emphasized the importance of the court's swift decision, saying, "Both parties were in agreement to dissolve their marriage, so it was unnecessary to prolong the process.
This timely decision has saved both time and resources, allowing each individual to move forward and live independently."
