Pune has been honored with the opportunity to host the prestigious 'Army Day Parade' on January 15, 2025, to mark the Indian Army’s Foundation Day.

This iconic event, which commemorates the formation of the Indian Army, will be organized by the Army’s Southern Command. Preparations for the event have already begun, with the location soon to be finalized.

The tradition of celebrating Army Day on January 15 began in 1949, when Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa assumed command as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. This day has since been celebrated as a tribute to the Indian Army’s leadership, bravery, and contributions to national defense.

Until 2022, the Army Day Parade was traditionally held in the national capital, Delhi. However, starting in 2023, the parade has been conducted outside Delhi to showcase different regions of India.

The first Army Day Parade outside Delhi was held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, in 2023. In 2024, the parade moved to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and for 2025, Pune has been selected as the host city.

This marks the second time the Southern Command has been tasked with organizing this prestigious event, following their successful management of the Bengaluru parade.

According to military officials, the Army Day Parade in Pune will be an opportunity to highlight the city’s historic and cultural significance, alongside the rich heritage of the Indian Army.
