At the same time, positive steps are also expected to be taken by the US for the internationalization of education in India.

Trump's victory in the US presidential election has boosted the hopes of Indian students going to higher education in the US and will provide a new ray of hope to further strengthen the relationship between global universities and Indian educational institutions in the US, say experts.

As many as 13,35,878 Indian students have gone abroad for higher studies this year. Of these, 31.96 per cent have gone to Canada and 25.27 per cent to the US.

The data was released by the Ministry of External Affairs in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha in August 2024 on Indian students migrating abroad for higher education.

On an average, 1.5 to 2 lakh Indian students go to the US every year to study. This number is increasing every year.

Meanwhile, with Trump once again as us president, researchers say that a positive environment has been created for students going to the US to study and for world-class universities in the US to get support for education in India.

Foreign policy analyst and director of higher education; Shailendra Deolankar said, "The National Education Policy has given special importance to internationalization of education.

This is likely to boost academic cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding, faculty and student exchanges with global universities in the US, and research projects in collaboration with each other.

Not only this, Indian students have the highest proportion of foreign students going to the US for education. Steps are likely to be taken to ensure that more Indian students get scholarships and facilities in the US."

Us President-elect Donald Trump's stance on foreign students is positive this time around. Indian students account for the largest number of foreign students coming to the US.

Therefore, there are positive signs that Indian graduates of science, technology, engineering and mathematics will get priority job visas in the US.

Apart from this, the central government has taken positive steps to open campuses for foreign universities in India. It is expected that reputed universities in the US will open campuses in India and promote collaboration with reputed educational institutions in India, says, Dr. Vidya Yerawadekar, Pro-Chancellor, Symbiosis International University

U.S. universities top the list of the best universities in the world. Therefore, these universities took the initiative to open campuses in India.

Apart from this, efforts are being made in the country to create a world-class curriculum in higher education. U.S. universities are expected to help with that, too, said Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, Foreign Policy Analyst and Director, Department of Higher Education

Will you get a job opportunity?
"Students dream of working in the United States for a few years after graduation and repaying this debt. However, Trump's old "American First" policy is likely to add to the concerns faced by Indian students.

Of course, indian students will be watching the policy decision that will be made after Trump takes over as president," said Kedar Takalkar, a career counsellor.
