Pune: The District Deputy Registrar has rejected the application for the collective deemed conveyance of approximately 14 acres of land in Kothrud, filed by the Indira Shankar Nagari Cooperative Housing Federation.

The application was rendered invalid after the federation's registration was canceled by the Regional Sub-Registrar, leaving no basis for the conveyance process.

The controversy began when the federation, formed without prior approval from the societies involved, sought bids from builders for the redevelopment of the entire 14-acre area through newspaper advertisements.

This triggered objections from more than 20 societies, who had not been consulted or informed beforehand. The societies subsequently submitted objections to the District Deputy Registrar.

The issue gained attention leading to widespread discussions in Kothrud. Following the protests, the federation voluntarily withdrew its application for deemed conveyance last month.

However, the registration of the federation was later canceled, making the application invalid. The District Deputy Registrar, therefore, rejected the application.

The societies had challenged the federation's registration with the Divisional Joint Registrar. After a thorough review, the Divisional Joint Registrar, Yogiraj Surve, canceled the federation’s registration.

Several notable irregularities were highlighted in Surve’s verdict, and the societies involved have indicated that criminal proceedings may follow. The cancellation was based on several serious findings.

The federation was formed without providing prior notice to the housing societies, nor was their consent obtained. It was also revealed that individuals holding commercial spaces or planned housing societies were incorrectly listed as members of the federation, which violates standard procedures.
