Pune: In a significant step towards sustainable waste management, Janwani organized an ‘E-Waste Collection Drive’ to coincide with Global E-Waste Day.
The initiative amassed 18 tons of e-waste, along with seven tons of plastic, 200 kg of thermocol, and two tons of old clothing, all collected from across Pune.
The event saw collaboration from over 25 organizations and housing societies, including the Cummins India Foundation, KPIT Technologies, Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative, Rotary Club, Mahalaxmi Recyclers, and K.K. Nag Private Limited, with the program being conducted at Chittaranjan Vatika in Model Colony.
Key speakers at the event, including Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation Prithviraj B.P., addressed the importance of improving e-waste collection processes.
“Citizens need to adopt sustainable waste management practices. It’s imperative to improve e-waste collection methods and curb plastic usage,” he stated.
Ramesh Pandya, Director of Janwani, highlighted the organization’s mission of raising environmental awareness and urged further public participation in sustainable initiatives.
The event received a positive response from Pune residents, who contributed electronic waste and other recyclable materials to support eco-friendly waste management.
In April this year, a citywide Campaign in Pune yielded 351.35 kg of e-Waste collected by PMC.
The e-waste collection campaign was launched across fifteen ward offices in Pune. Each ward office has set up a facility for collecting electronic waste, including five designated health check areas.
Key partners including the Pune Municipal Corporation, Cummins India Foundation, Swachh Pune Seva Cooperative, and Aadar Poonawala Clean City Initiative had contributed to the campaign's success.
