Pune: The Ujani Dam has reached its full capacity, leading to the opening of 16 gates and an increase in the discharge into the Bhima River to 116,000 cusecs.

This follows substantial rainfall in Pune, which has caused significant water levels in various dams across the region. Jayakwadi Dam, crucial for Marathwada, has seen its water level rise to 15.31%.

Pune Rainfall Eases, Halting Khadakwasla Dam Discharge

Water discharge is ongoing from 34 dams. The live water storage in the Jayakwadi Dam, crucial for Marathwada, has reached 15.31%.

Due to the substantial rainfall in Pune, the Ujani Dam has finally filled to 100%, leading to the opening of 16 gates and an increase in the discharge into the Bhima River to 116,000 cusecs.

Water is being released from nearly 22 dams in the Bhima basin. Even though there has been no rain in Solapur district, water from Pune district is being released into the Bhima River through Ujani.

Water is also being released from the Veer Dam into the Nira River. The full capacity of Ujani Dam has led to water discharge, affecting 100 villages along the riverbanks, including Pandharpur, creating a flood situation in the Chandrabhaga River.

Discharge Ongoing from Many Dams

The state's 2,997 dams hold a total of 916.75 TMC of water. The Pune division's 720 small and large dams hold 431.82 TMC of water.

Due to the discharge from Ujani, the Chandrabhaga River in Pandharpur is experiencing a flood situation. The Koyna Dam currently holds 81.81% of its capacity.
