Pune: The Department of Skill Development, Employment, and Entrepreneurship has been actively organizing job fairs across Pune division to provide employment to the unemployed youth.
Over the last two and a half years, a total of 176 job fairs were held in the five districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur. Despite massive participation, the results highlight a significant gap between registrations and actual job placements.
Pune Divisional Commissionerate: 11 fairs

Kolhapur District: 33 fairs
This disparity has been attributed to a variety of factors such as incomplete documentation, lack of requisite educational qualifications, absence from the job fairs despite registration, or disinterest in available trainee positions.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to widespread job losses, especially in industries heavily reliant on labor. As the economy began to recover, new opportunities emerged, largely due to foreign and domestic investment in the region.
To capitalize on this resurgence, the government took steps to facilitate job placements by organizing these fairs and encouraging participation through the 'Mahaswayam' portal, where candidates could register online.
Despite the department's efforts, the gap between those seeking employment and those successfully placed in jobs remains a concern. A significant portion of candidates—nearly 60%—are still without jobs due to various challenges encountered during the job fair process.
