Pune: special court has rejected the bail applications of two accused involved in an alleged blood sample tampering plot related to the Kalyani Nagar accident case.
The two accused, Aditya Avinash Sood and Ashish Satish Mittal, were arrested after it was revealed that they had participated in an elaborate plan to substitute their own blood samples for those of two minors, who were friends of the driver involved in the accident. This move was reportedly aimed at shielding the minors from legal consequences.
The case traces back to a serious road accident in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, where two minor boys, friends of the driver, became subjects of an investigation.
As the case unfolded, it was discovered that Sood and Mittal bribed medical professionals to alter the blood samples, effectively trying to manipulate the evidence.
The special court, under Judge U. M. Mudholkar, rejected the bail on grounds of serious misconduct, observing that falsifying medical reports and tampering with blood samples amounts to forging crucial legal documents.
The court emphasized the gravity of the accusations, especially given the nature of the evidence tampered with.
The Blood Sample Tampering Conspiracy
Aditya Sood, aged 52, and Ashish Mittal, aged 37, both residents of Pune, are accused of bribing key medical officials at Sassoon General Hospital. The two men were said to have worked with Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the then Chief Medical Officer of the hospital’s emergency department, and Dr. Ajay Taware, the head of the forensic department.
Their plan was to ensure that blood samples taken from the two minors implicated in the accident were swapped with their own to manipulate legal outcomes.
According to the investigation by Pune police, Aditya Sood gave his own blood sample in place of one minor, while Ashish Mittal replaced the sample of the second minor with his own.
Both accused fled the state upon realizing that they were under investigation. However, they returned to Pune once they learned that police teams were pursuing them, and were promptly arrested.
Legal Battle and Rejection of Bail After their arrest, both accused were placed in judicial custody at Yerawada Jail and subsequently filed bail applications.
However, Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray opposed the bail pleas, presenting evidence including witness statements and a Chemical Analysis (CA) report that directly linked both accused to the blood sample tampering.
Hiray’s arguments convinced the court that both men were complicit in fabricating evidence, leading to the rejection of their bail applications.
The defense lawyers, Advocate Satish Sharma and Advocate Abid Mulani, argued in favor of the accused, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful in securing bail for their clients.
