Pune: A wave of robberies in the Katraj Ghat area has left residents in fear, as armed criminals have been targeting two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
The Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station has registered four cases of robbery and intimidation within the past two days, sparking calls for immediate police intervention.
On the night of Saturday, October 5, at around 10:30 PM, and in the early hours of Sunday, October 6, at approximately 5:30 AM, unidentified individuals riding motorcycles used machetes to threaten and assault two Katraj residents, Vighnesh Gosavi and Rohit Mathare.
The attackers tried to run them over with their motorcycles before violently attempting to snatch their mobile phones.
In a separate incident on the same day, three individuals—Shubham Taru, Vikas Bhujbal, and Narayan Mhetre—were out for a morning walk towards Katraj Ghat when they were threatened with machetes by the same group of criminals. The attackers stole their mobile phones and fled towards Katraj.
All four cases have been registered at Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station, and Assistant Police Inspector Sameer Kadam is leading the investigation into these alarming incidents.
The Katraj Chowk has also seen an increase in petty theft, with thieves roaming near travel stops at night, preying on unsuspecting passengers.
Senior Police Inspector Dashrath Patil of Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station assured that thorough investigations are underway, and the search for the unidentified assailants continues. He urged citizens to report any further incidents, assuring them that the police would take swift and appropriate action.
