Pune: The Katraj-Kondhwa road continues to be a source of frustration for residents and commuters due to large potholes that have resurfaced despite recent repair efforts.
The long-awaited road-widening project remains delayed, and the current condition of the road is worsening, posing serious risks to public safety and causing frequent traffic jams.
The municipal corporation recently undertook tarring work on the road, but the repairs have been substandard. Residents reported that the gravel laid on the road came loose just a day after the repairs, leading to the reappearance of potholes.
The situation has left locals distressed and questioning the quality of work being performed. Frequent traffic jams and accidents on this busy stretch have highlighted the administration's apparent lack of urgency in addressing the issue.
The stretch at Rajas Society Chowk is particularly affected, with significant potholes disrupting the flow of both local traffic and heavy vehicles. This has resulted in severe congestion and delays, prompting criticism from residents who feel the administration has neglected the road's maintenance.
In response to mounting complaints, the head of the Roads Department, Aniruddha Pawaskar, along with Superintendent Engineer Sahebrao Dandge, conducted a site inspection and issued immediate orders to fill the potholes.
The Roads Department carried out the repair work late Sunday night; however, within hours, the potholes reappeared, leading to concerns about the quality of materials used.
Aniruddha Pawaskar addressed the situation, stating, “We have received complaints about potholes reappearing on the Katraj-Kondhwa road shortly after repairs were made.
We are investigating the reasons behind this, including an assessment of the asphalt quality, and will take appropriate action against those responsible.”
The recurring issue of potholes not only disrupts traffic but also poses a danger to motorists, especially during the ongoing monsoon season when road conditions can further deteriorate.
Residents are urging the administration to ensure that repairs are done with better quality materials to avoid the same problem recurring in the future.
