Pune: In preparation for the Dahi Handi celebrations on Tuesday, August 27, the Pune traffic police have announced temporary changes in traffic routes in the central parts of the city.
Key roads including Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Laxmi Road, Bajirao Road, and Tilak Road will see diversions starting from Tuesday (August 27) evening, with certain sections closed off completely once the crowd gathers.
During the Dahi Handi celebrations, there is usually heavy crowding on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Mahatma Phule Mandai, Hutatma Babu Genu Chowk, Appa Balwant Chowk, Sahitya Parishad Chowk on Tilak Road, and in Navi Peth.
From Tuesday (August 27) evening until the Dahi Handi festivities conclude, traffic arrangements in these areas will be modified. Once the crowd increases, Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Tilak Road, Laxmi Road, and Bajirao Road will be closed to traffic. Vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes, according to Traffic Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zhende.
Vehicles heading towards Swargate via Chhatrapati Shivaji Road should proceed to their destination via Jangli Maharaj Road and Khanduji Baba Chowk from S. G. Barve Chowk.
Vehicles heading towards Shivajinagar via Bajirao Road from Puram Chowk on Tilak Road should proceed via Tilak Road. Vehicles heading towards the Municipal Corporation building from S. G. Barve Chowk should proceed via Jangli Maharaj Road and Jhansi Ki Rani Chowk.
Traffic from Budhwar Chowk towards Appa Balwant Chowk will be made one-way. Vehicles from Appa Balwant Chowk towards Budhwar Chowk will be restricted, and they should proceed to their destination via Bajirao Road.
