Pune: Residents of Vrindavan Society in Kharadi have been facing a severe water crisis, with no water supply for the last four days. The situation has caused significant distress during the festive season.
Over the past five months, 15 to 20 houses in Lane No. 2 of Vrindavan Society have been receiving water with extremely low pressure, despite multiple complaints lodged with the local office and water supply department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
For the past few days, the taps have run completely dry, forcing residents to buy water from private suppliers, who are allegedly exploiting the situation by hiking prices.
The water shortage has been particularly challenging as it coincides with Navratri, a time when households need more water for various rituals and celebrations.
"We have approached the PMC officials multiple times, and even contacted local political representatives, but the water supply issue has not been resolved," said resident Deepa Chavan.
"The officials only provide assurances, but no concrete action has been taken. If the problem persists, we are prepared to organize a protest march."
According to Anwar Mulla, a junior engineer from the PMC’s water supply department, the issue arose due to damage to the water pipeline during road construction work four days ago.
Repair work is ongoing, and officials are investigating the cause of the continued disruption in water supply to Vrindavan Society. Necessary corrective measures will be implemented to restore water supply to the affected households.
