Pune: The Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival 2024 recently celebrated notable contributions to society, with Professor Dr. Shilpagauri Ganpule receiving the prestigious 'Vasundhara Award' for her impactful work in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Dr. Ganpule’s award was one among several, as the festival also honored individuals across various domains: Dr. Shailaja Bhavsar for her advancements in the medical field, Abhijit Londhe for environmental advocacy, Prajakta Rudrawar for her efforts in social and environmental awareness, and Madhuri Krishna Dhamale Kulkarni for her role in social awareness through media.
The festival was organized by the Jal Dindi Pratishthan and held from October 21 to 23 across several educational institutions in Pimpri-Chinchwad, including Rajshree Shahu College of Engineering, Pimpri-Chinchwad Engineering College, D.Y. Patil College, Akshara International School, Blossom International School, and the Science Park.
This year’s theme, "Women’s Safety," was reflected in numerous expert-led discussions on critical topics such as cyber security, legal rights, and mental health.
Dr. Harold DeCosta presented on cyber security issues faced by women, Adv. Parikrama Khot outlined legal protections, Senior Police Officer Nitin Phatangre discussed police initiatives, and Yogita Todkar emphasized mental well-being.
Additionally, Dr. Arnab Das highlighted environmental awareness through an underwater domain perspective.
Film screenings focused on themes of health, environment, and social issues were held across colleges and schools, providing young audiences with insights into pressing societal topics.
The festival also hosted the "Idea Challenge 2024," where students showcased innovative ideas, with outstanding projects receiving recognition.
The event was supported by prominent individuals including Virendra Chitrav, Shirish Pandav, Dr. Sandeep Mali, Arun Sonar, Pravin Tupe, Babasaheb Kale, Jayant Bahekar, Dr. Pawan Salve, Dr. Abhay Kulkarni, and Mukund Rajivade, whose collective efforts contributed to the festival's success.
