Pune: A police officer has been suspended for blackmailing a couple staying at a hotel in the Koregaon Park area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartna Patil issued the suspension orders for Sandeep Vasant Shinde, the officer involved.
The incident occurred when a couple checked into a hotel in Koregaon Park and submitted their documents.
Sandeep Vasant Shinde, who was part of the Local Intelligence Bureau at the Koregaon Park Police Station, obtained the couple's information from the hotel. He then contacted the young man staying with his girlfriend and demanded money.
As the harassment from Shinde escalated, the young man reported the matter to senior police officials.
An internal investigation was carried out, and Shinde was found guilty of the accusations. His actions were deemed to have tarnished the reputation of the police force, leading to his suspension by Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartna Patil.
