Pune: In a major crackdown by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), a livestock inspector, Bandu Baban Devkar, was caught while accepting a bribe of ₹5000. Devkar, aged 43 and a resident of Kude Budruk in Khed Taluka, was nabbed at the Kude Budruk veterinary hospital.
The incident unfolded after a complainant, who had applied online for the Maharashtra State Scheme for the distribution of dairy cows and buffaloes, reported the inspector's demand for a bribe to include the complainant's name in the final list of beneficiaries. Initially, Devkar demanded INR 7,000, but eventually settled for ₹5000.
The ACB conducted a thorough investigation, verifying the complaint on July 31, August 1, and August 5. Following the verification, the ACB set a trap on Tuesday and apprehended Devkar while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The operation was led by Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve. A case has been registered at Khed police station, with Inspector Rupesh Jadhav heading the investigation.
