Pune: VPS High School and D.P. Mehta Junior College, managed by the Vidya Prasarak Sabha, celebrated Diwali with a striking display, illuminating the school grounds with thousands of lamps.
The annual tradition, led by students, teachers, and staff, is not only a symbol of Diwali festivities but also a call for civic awareness, with this year’s theme focused on encouraging citizens to vote.
The event began with an inaugural lamp-lighting ceremony conducted by school dignitaries, including School Committee President Bhagwan Ambekar, members Arvind Mehta and Rajesh Mehta, Principal Uday Mahindrakar, Vice Principal Adinath Dahiphale, Suhas Visal, Supervisor Vijay Rasal, Srinivas Gajendragadkar, Kshama Deshpande, Jyoti Damse, Sanjeevani Ambekar, Kundalik Ambekar, and Savita Singh.
Following this, students continued to light the lamps across the school premises, creating an atmosphere of festive warmth and unity.
The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from VPS scouts, guides, students, teachers, and parents. Scout teacher Sanjay Palve, along with art teacher Chandrakant Joshi, and a dedicated team including Yogesh Kothawade, Vaishali Taru, Ravi Dandgavhal, Sachin Thorat, Nilesh Dhakole, and Anuja Gosavi, coordinated the elaborate arrangements.
The lamps were organized in thematic patterns to underline the importance of voting, encouraging citizens to fulfill their civic duty.
Assembly President Dr. Mrinalini Garware, Secretary Dr. Satish Gawali, Joint Secretary Vijay Bhurke, and Bhagwan Ambekar commended the students for their efforts, highlighting the unique way in which the celebration also fostered a spirit of social responsibility. They extended their best Diwali wishes to the students and congratulated the team on their success.
