Lonikand Police File Case Against Man for Caste-Based Refusal of Marriage
Pune: A 23-year-old man from Jalna district has been charged with atrocities by the Lonikand Police after allegedly luring a young woman into a relationship under the false promise of marriage and later refusing to marry her due to her caste.
The accused, Abhishek Sanjay Magar, is said to have assaulted the 23-year-old complainant, a resident of Wagholi, and demanded money from her, escalating his abuse when his demands were not met.
The incidents reportedly took place between December 2023 and April 2024.
According to the information provided by the police, despite knowing that the complainant belonged to a backward class, Abhishek Magar lured her with the promise of marriage and engaged in physical relations with her.
Later, he began demanding money from her every two to three months. When she refused to give him money or gave less than he asked for, he verbally abused and physically assaulted her.
He would take the complainant to his native place, and on one occasion, stopped the car on the way and told her that his family did not want a daughter-in-law from a lower caste and would not accept her into their home, asking her to leave.
He then pushed her out of the car. After returning to Pune, the complainant filed a complaint, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pranjali Sonawane is investigating the case.
