Mumbai: In the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections held on July 12 for 11 seats, all five BJP candidates emerged victorious. The successful candidates from BJP include Pankaja Munde, Yogesh Tilekar, Parinay Fuke, Amit Gorkhe, and Sadabhau Khot.
As per the results so far, Pankaja Munde, Yogesh Tilekar, Parinay Fuke, Amit Gorkhe, and Sadabhau Khot each secured 26 votes. Vote counting is still ongoing, and the final tally could increase for these candidates. Each candidate needed only 23 votes to win, and all five BJP candidates have surpassed this quota.
In a closely contested election, both candidates from Ajit Pawar's faction also secured victories. Rajesh Vitekar garnered 23 votes, while Shivajirao Garje received 24 votes.
This marks a significant win for Ajit Pawar's faction following their defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. This election has garnered considerable attention in Maharashtra, with its outcomes likely to influence the state's political landscape.
Commenting on the results, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated, "Even after a few more rounds, there is no issue with all nine candidates of the Mahayuti getting elected.
The entire state was focused on this election, with various rumors circulating. Although we had 42 votes, more legislators voted for Shivajirao Garje and Rajesh Vitekar than expected.
I thank all the legislators for their support. Both of them will work in the legislature, representing the party and the people's concerns to resolve issues."
Former MLA Yogesh Tilekar from Hadapsar Assembly Constituency of Pune was been nominated as the OBC representative for the Maharashtra Legislative Council. This nomination signified a political comeback for Tilekar.
Similarly, Amit Gorkhe who had initially prepared to contest from Pimpri, had received a nomination for the Legislative Council.
