Pune: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has announced that the SSC (10th) and HSC (12th) standard exams will be conducted earlier this year, with the exams set to begin eight to ten days earlier than in previous years.
The 12th standard written exams are scheduled to take place from February 11 to March 18, while the 10th standard exams will be held from February 21 to March 17.
The 10th standard oral, practical, and internal assessment exams will be conducted from February 3 to February 20. The 12th standard oral, practical, and internal assessment exams will be held from January 24 to February 10.
The decision to advance the exam schedule was made to ensure the timely completion of the academic year, provide students with adequate preparation time for entrance exams to professional courses, and to allow for the earlier conduct of supplementary exams.
The board has invited objections and suggestions regarding the tentative exam dates, which can be submitted until August 23.
State Board Secretary Anuradha Oak announced the tentative schedule through a press release. The 10th and 12th exams are conducted through nine divisional boards.
Typically, the 12th exams begin in the third week of February, while the 10th exams start in the first week of March. The results for the 12th standard are usually declared by the end of May, and for the 10th standard in the first week of June. Supplementary and grade improvement exams for unsuccessful students are held in the third week of July.
To ensure that the academic year is completed on time, to give students ample time to prepare for entrance exams for professional courses, and to conduct supplementary exams and declare results earlier, the State Board has decided to revise the long-established exam schedule. State Board President Sharad Gosavi had hinted at these changes during the 10th standard results announcement this year.
The tentative dates have been announced to help schools, junior colleges, and students plan their syllabus, and to reduce students' stress.
A detailed subject-wise schedule will be announced separately on the State Board's website. The State Board has clarified that objections and suggestions regarding the dates can be sent to secretary.stateboard@gmail.com.
