Mumbai: 382 birds were reportedly found dead across nine districts in Maharashtra in one day. This has taken the total cases of bird flu to 3,378 in Maharashtra. As per the information from state’s health department, samples of birds from Nashik, Ahmednagar, Latur and Nanded returned positive for bird flu.
The state department on Thursday said that a total of 382 birds found dead. The samples have been sent to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal and DIS in Pune. A total of 3,378 deaths of birds are dead since the first case was reported in Maharashtra on January 8. So far, nine districts have been exposed to bird flu in the state.
The results of the check-up of the previously sent samples from Mumbai, Thane and Dapoli tested positive for bird flu in crows and herons. While, samples sent from poultry farm from Muramba in Parbhani have also found positive for H5N1 strain. Crows in Beed district have been found positive for the H5N8.
Ten samples from other birds like, parrots, sparrows, herons and more from Marathwada region, Nashik, Thane have tested positive. On the other side, samples from Satara, Nashik, Nagpur, Yavatmal and Gondia have tested negative.
Meanwhile, the central government has issued multiple advisories on the spread of bird flu across India, state governments who are on alert are now undertaking awareness campaigns via newspaper ads, social media handles, in an aim to inform the public, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (FAHD) said.
