Maharashtra: 50 prisoners of Akola district jail test positive for COVID-19

The health authorities have informed that fifty prisoners of the Akola district jail have tested positive for COVID-19 disease on Sunday. As per the information by jail official, as of now, there are around three hundred prisoners in Akola district jail. 

Previously, positive reports of the 78 people including 50 male prisoners of the jail were provided by the Government Medical College and Hospital. Including these numbers, the district’s COVID-19 cases’ number has now reached close to 1,500.

18 prisoners of the same jail were found positive for COVID-19 earlier on 24th June. As of now,  Akola district has reported 76 deaths. 

Till date, one thousand patients have recovered from the disease and have been discharged. The district has more than 375 active cases. The Maharashtra State has registered 1, 59,133 confirmed cases till now with more than 84,000 recovered. 7,273 have succumbed to the disease. 

Coronavirus remains prevalent across the country. It is infamous its rapid spread. Its cases in India have gone up 5, 30,924. More than 3 lakh have recovered and 16,124 deaths have caused.
