Pune: Maharashtra's per day count of new COVID-19 cases continued to remain above the 8,000-mark on Sunday, while the death toll increased by 62 to reach 52,154, according to health department.
Some cities of Vidarbha and Pune have seen enforcement of restrictions as well as lockdown amid the rising cases. Here we take a look at districts which are under lockdown or strict restrictions such as night curfew:
Amravati
Due to surge in the cases of COVID-19, lockdown in Amravati is extended till March 8. Shailesh Naval, District Collector ordered extension of the lockdown in the district. During the lockdown, shops, except those of essential services, were ordered to remain close along with schools, colleges and other educational institutes.
Hingoli
Hingoli district placed under a strict curfew. This come after a day after the district reported 51 new cases of novel coronavirus. The curbs will remain in place till March 17. Ruchesh Jayvanshi, District Collector, in an order declared on Saturday evening said the curfew will be enforced from 7 am and continue till March 7 midnight.
Pune
It seems the graph of COVID-19 is not flattening its curve in Pune. The city on Sunday decided to extend its night curfew till March 14. The city Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said that schools, colleges, coaching classes and other educational institutions in the city will remain shut till March 14. There will be no public movement in the city between 11 pm and 6 am, except for essential services. The city is reporting over 700 new cases per day from past few days.
Yavatmal, Buldhana and Nagpur
The administration in Yavatmal imposed a complete curfew for 40 hours, on Saturday. Lockdown is also enforced for Saturday and Sunday (weekends) in Nagpur as well as in Buldhana. Nagpur also have decided to shut school and colleges till March 7.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday urged people to wear masks and follow all COVID-19 norms. Asked whether a lockdown will be forced in Maharashtra, CM said, "I do not want to enforce lockdown in the state but 'majboori' (helplessness) is also something."
