Mali Federation Demands Name Change to Mahatma Phule Mandai Metro Station

Pune: As the underground metro line from Shivajinagar to Swargate nears its inauguration, a dispute has erupted over the naming of the Mandai Metro Station. 

The Mali Federation is leading the charge, demanding that the station be renamed "Mahatma Phule Mandai." The current name, "Mandai Metro Station," has sparked controversy, with various social and political groups joining the call for a change before the official opening.

Members of the Mali Federation staged a protest outside the metro station, expressing their displeasure at the metro administration's inaction on the matter.

Despite repeated appeals, the administration has yet to address the demand. Federation city president Deepak Jagtap, along with other leaders and activists, voiced their concerns during the protest, insisting that the station bear Mahatma Phule’s name in honor of his contributions.

The demand has gained momentum as local leaders and community members argue that the new name would reflect the historical significance of Mahatma Phule and his role in social reforms. The protestors have vowed to continue their agitation until their demand is met.
