Man Charged for Exploiting Woman with False Promise of Marriage, Coercing Abortion

The accused, identified as Sanyog Sanjay Gaikwad, allegedly forced the woman to undergo an abortion without her consent.

Pune: A 19-year-old woman has accused a man of exploiting her under the pretense of marriage, only to refuse to marry her when she became pregnant, citing her mother's lower caste as the reason.

The accused, identified as Sanyog Sanjay Gaikwad, allegedly forced the woman to undergo an abortion without her consent. The incidents reportedly took place over a span of nearly two years, from October 2022 to September 2024. Following the complaint lodged by the young woman, Loni Kalbhor police have registered a case against Gaikwad under the Atrocity Act.

According to the police, Sanyog Gaikwad runs a CCTV camera shop near Shankar Maharaj Math in Dhankawadi, Pune. He allegedly enticed the complainant with false promises of marriage and engaged in a sexual relationship with her at his shop and other locations.

Over time, the woman became pregnant. However, when she informed Gaikwad of her pregnancy, he refused to marry her, stating that her mother's caste was unacceptable to him.

The situation escalated when Gaikwad arranged for the termination of the pregnancy without the woman's consent at Chintamani Hospital in Urali Kanchan.

The fetus was determined to be approximately 10 weeks and 15 days old at the time of the abortion. The victim, feeling betrayed and coerced, approached the Loni Kalbhor police to file a formal complaint against Gaikwad.

The case has been registered under multiple sections, including charges of cheating, exploitation, and violations under the Atrocity Act due to caste discrimination. Police Sub-Inspector Nalawade is leading the investigation.
