Pune: Manorama Khedkar, mother of controversial IAS probationary officer Puja Khedkar, complained to the court about substandard food being received in police custody. Pune Rural Police have denied her allegations.
Meanwhile, Manorama Khedkar's police custody has been extended by two more days. The decision to extend her police custody was taken by Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Sudhir Barde at the Paud Court.
Pune Rural Police have seized a firearm along with cartridges, and a luxury car from the Baner Bungalow of Manorama Khedkar. This seizure was done during a property search, by the police team led by Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, at National Housing Society in Baner. The search was conducted while Manorama was in police custody.
The investigation pertains to a case filed against Manorama Khedkar, her husband Dilip, and seven others, including a bodyguard, for threatening a farmer in Mulshi region. The investigation initially handled by the Paud Police, has been transferred to the Pune Rural Police's Local Crime Branch.
Manorama was apprehended from a hotel in Mahad, Raigad district in the wee hours of July 18. She was staying at the hotel under false identity using an Aadhaar card of one Indubai Dhakane, who is mother of a cab driver, who took Manorama to Mahad from Pune.
Manorama was remanded to police custody by the court during the first hearing. As her police custody was about to end, the police team presented her in court, requesting an extension of her custody to ensure a thorough investigation.
Public prosecutor Nanaware supported the extension of her custody, which was granted until Monday, July 22. Pune City Police have also issued a notice to cancel Manorama Khedkar's gun license.
