Pune: Manorama Khedkar, mother of the controversial IAS officer Puja Khedkar, faces increased troubles as she is sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody by the court. Her bail application was rejected following her arrest for threatening farmers. Khedkar will be transferred to Yerawada Jail.
After being placed in police custody twice for two days each, the court has now deemed the police investigation complete and sentenced her to 14 days of judicial custody. Her lawyer's efforts to secure early release through bail were unsuccessful.
Manorama is accused of threatening a farmer at gunpoint, leading to a police case being filed against her. The case involves offenses registered against seven individuals, but only Manorama Khedkar has been arrested so far.
During the ongoing controversy surrounding IAS trainee Puja Khedkar, a video surfaced showing Manorama Khedkar brandishing a gun and threatening a farmer in Mulshi.
This video went viral on social media, prompting the farmer Pandharinath Kondaba Pasalkar to file a complaint. Subsequently, a case was registered against both Manorama and her husband Dilip Khedkar.
To evade arrest in this case, Manorama had planned an escape from Pune to Mahad. She had booked a room in the name of Indubai Dhakane, using her Aadhaar Card details.
Manorama had been living under that assumed name, making it difficult for the police to locate her. However, the police tracked her mobile phone, which was turned on briefly at 11 PM on July 17, revealing her location. She was detained at 3:30 AM on July 18, that is withing 4 hours.
After completing all arrest procedures at Paud Police Station, she was presented before the court and initially given three days of police custody.
After the custody ended on July 20, she was given another two days until July 22. Upon the end of this period, she was again presented before the court and sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody.
Pune Rural police conducted a search at the Baner bungalow of Manorama Khedkar on Friday (July 19), who was arrested for threatening a farmer with a pistol. During the search, the police seized the pistol, three bullets, and a luxury Land Cruiser car.
