Pune: A burglar who targeted high-end residential societies was arrested by the Crime Branch’s Unit 5 team following a tip-off about his plan to sell stolen jewelry.
The accused, identified as Anil Minsing Khadka (25), a resident of Keshav Chowk, Malwadi, Hadapsar, confessed to committing a burglary in the Marvel Arco Society. Gold jewelry worth ₹11,59,500 was recovered from him.
While patrolling in Hadapsar, constables Tanaji Deshmukh and Amit Kamble of Crime Branch Unit 5 received intelligence that the suspect in a recent house break-in would be at the Amardham crematorium in Malwadi to sell the stolen gold ornaments.
Acting swiftly, the team reached the location and detained Khadka, who was found in possession of 173 grams of gold jewelry.
Upon interrogation, Khadka admitted to breaking into a flat in Marvel Arco Society, Hadapsar.
According to a complaint filed by the homeowner, Anuradha Phani Ryanapati (44), the incident occurred between November 17 and 21. The burglar had entered the home through an open door and stolen gold jewelry worth ₹2,70,000 from a cupboard.
Khadka was subsequently handed over to the Hadapsar Police for further investigation.
The operation was led by Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajendra Mulik.
The team included Inspector Yuvraj Hande, Assistant Inspector Vijaykumar Shinde, and constables Amit Kamble, Tanaji Deshmukh, Pramod Tilekar, Pratap Gaikwad, Vinod Nimbhore, Vinod Shivale, Swati Gawade, Pallavi More, Shubhangi Mhalsekar, Akbar Shaikh, and Rahul Dhamdhere.
