Pune: A major water pipeline supplying the Koregaon Park area burst early Tuesday (October 15) morning, leading to the wastage of millions of liters of water and causing significant disruption to the water supply in the region.
The pipeline, which connects to the Lashkar Water Center, was damaged by a JCB machine during excavation work for the Sadhu Vaswani Bridge.
Local residents quickly reported the incident to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), but it wasn’t until 2 p.m. that the Corporation initiated efforts to locate the damaged pipeline.
According to PMC officials, the burst pipeline affected water supply on both South Main Road and North Main Road in Koregaon Park.
In the early hours of the morning, the reduced water flow in the pipeline kept the severity of the issue under control. However, once the regular water supply resumed later in the morning, large quantities of water began flooding the roads.
While the JCB operator was busy removing water from the excavation site, the PMC was notified, and the water supply to the affected area was immediately shut off.
Despite this, water continued to leak in significant amounts, complicating efforts to identify and repair the broken pipeline.
It wasn't until the afternoon that repair work was finally initiated, and the efforts to fix the pipeline continued late into the night. The PMC has assured residents that normal water supply will resume once the repairs are completed.
