Pune: A 30-year-old man, Amol Laxman Waghmare, has been sentenced to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 14,000 for repeated sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl.
The court directed that the fine be used for the victim's rehabilitation and instructed the District Legal Services Authority to provide assistance under the Manodhairya Scheme. The verdict was delivered by Special Judge S. B. Rathod.
The incident occurred between 2019 and February 2020 in Thergaon. The victim's mother had filed a complaint at the Wakad police station. The complainant works as a domestic help and would be away from home for work, during which Waghmare would come to their house.
He initially professed his love for the girl and then began assaulting her. This continued from 2019 until February 2020. The complainant was informed by a neighbor that Waghmare would visit her house while she was away.
Upon questioning her daughter, the complainant learned about the incidents. Subsequently, a complaint was filed against Waghmare.
The case was investigated by then-Assistant Police Inspector Sapna Devtale. Public Prosecutor Supriya More-Desai handled the prosecution. Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar and Crime Inspector Ravikumar Nale from Wakad police station acted as supervising officers.
Court Bhairavi employee D. S. Pandule assisted with the court proceedings. The fine amount is to be used for the girl's rehabilitation. The District Legal Services Authority has been ordered to provide appropriate assistance to the girl under the Manodhairya Scheme.
