Pune: The growing involvement of minors in criminal activities has surfaced again with a disturbing incident of robbery. Early in the morning on September 10, a college student who had just arrived in Pune from Jaysingpur was robbed at knifepoint by four minors. The Sahakarnagar police have arrested the four boys, aged between 16 and 17.
The victim, a 21-year-old Electronics Engineering student at VIT College, Bibwewadi, had disembarked from a bus at 3:30 a.m. at D-Mart Chowk on Pune-Satara Road.
As he waited for a friend to pick him up, four boys on a motorcycle approached him, grabbed him by the collar, and began questioning him about the contents of his bag.
Despite the victim explaining that he had come from Kolhapur and was heading home, one of the boys tried to snatch his bag.
When the victim resisted, one of them held a knife to his stomach and forcefully took his mobile phone and bag, while also snatching ₹3,000 from his pocket. Just then, the victim's friend arrived, causing the attackers to flee, dropping the bag but escaping with the phone and cash.
Frightened by the ordeal, the victim returned to his hometown. However, the Sahakarnagar police managed to apprehend the four minors. Upon discovering that the mobile phone in their possession was stolen, they contacted the victim, who subsequently returned to Pune and filed a formal complaint.
The police have charged the minors with robbery and are investigating the case under the supervision of Assistant Police Inspector Patil.
