Pune: MIT World Peace University (MIT WPU) held its 6th convocation ceremony on Saturday, conferring degrees upon 5,478 students across various disciplines.
The event took place at the Vishva Sabhamandap in Loni-Kalbhor, Pune, with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, addressing the graduates as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, Minister Shekhawat highlighted the importance of continuous learning and perseverance, emphasizing that these qualities are the true milestones of a student's life.
He encouraged the graduates to prove themselves in the corporate world and work towards elevating the prestige of their families and institutions.
Renowned scientist and Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Padma Shri Dr. Krishnaswamy Vijay Raghavan, was honored with the "MIT WPU Science Maharshi Award" for his lifetime contributions to the field of science. He was presented with a certificate, a statue of Goddess Saraswati, and a cash prize of ₹5 lakhs.
Other distinguished guests at the event included Prof. Ram Charan, a prominent international business consultant, along with MIT WPU’s Founder-President Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, Executive President Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.M. Chitnis, and other senior university officials.
In addition to the degrees, 295 medals were awarded to students for their academic excellence, including 122 gold, 85 silver, and 85 bronze. Twenty-six students were conferred PhDs, and 435 students made it to the merit list.
The convocation also recognized two outstanding students, Abhijit Pawar and Anushree Kulkarni, with special medals for their achievements.
