Pune: A mobile theft case in Pune's Shikrapur area took a dramatic turn when one of the accused attempted suicide at the police station after being caught by alert citizens.
The accused, identified as Parmeshwar Nagnath Dhewade, became agitated after being brought to the police station and threatened to take his own life if a case was filed against him. He then tried to end his life by banging his head against the police station window.
The incident unfolded when Police Havaldar Bapu Hadgale, Constable Pratik Jagtap, and Woman Constable Kajal Sarode were on duty at the Shikrapur Police Station.
Citizens had apprehended two individuals, Parmeshwar Dhewade and Ramdas Mahadev Bhalerao, for snatching a young woman’s mobile phone. When brought to the station, Dhewade attempted to calm the victim by promising to replace her phone but soon became highly distressed.
He loudly declared, "If you file a case against me, I will end my life!" In a fit of desperation, he slammed his head against a window, causing severe injuries and bleeding.
The police immediately acted, rushing the injured Dhewade to a hospital for medical care. Meanwhile, based on a complaint by Constable Pratik Jagtap, a case was filed against Dhewade, who is a 24-year-old resident of Sansawadi in the Shirur district.
The investigation into the case is being led by Havaldar Ravikiran Jadhav under the guidance of Police Inspector Deepratan Gaikwad.
