Pune: With the southwest monsoon firmly established, vapor-laden clouds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are heading towards Maharashtra, bringing significant rainfall.

The weather department has issued a warning for heavy rain with thunderstorms in scattered areas of Pune's ghats on Monday (June 24). An 'Orange Alert' has been declared for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and Satara districts.

The rainfall intensity is expected to rise in Konkan and the ghats on Monday, where an 'Orange Alert' for heavy rain has been announced. Scattered thunderstorms with strong winds are also anticipated in various parts of the state.

Heavy rainfall was recorded in areas like Tamhini, Dungarwadi, and Ambone on the ghats by Sunday (June 23) morning, with Tamhini experiencing the state's highest rainfall at 120 millimeters. The intensity of rain had slightly decreased in Konkan, while light to moderate showers were observed in many parts of the state.

An active north-south low-pressure trough extends from Maharashtra to Kerala. Most parts of the state saw cloudy weather on Sunday (June 23), with a significant rise in humidity from the morning.

Rain began in Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha in the afternoon. The cloudy weather and rain kept the maximum temperature below 36 degrees Celsius.

An 'Orange Alert' has been issued for heavy rain in Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Satara, and Kolhapur districts. A 'Yellow Alert' for heavy rain is in place for Pune district's ghats, Palghar, Amravati, and Akola. Scattered thunderstorms are expected in North Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha.

Cloudy Weather in Pune

Pune experienced cloudy weather throughout Sunday, with light showers occurring in the afternoon. Heavy showers were reported in Pimpri Chinchwad and Bhosari areas.

On Monday, June 24, Pune is expected to have partly cloudy skies with a chance of light afternoon showers. Scattered heavy rain is anticipated on the surrounding ghats, and the minimum temperature is expected to drop to 33 degrees Celsius.
